Deltapark Neeltje Jans; the theme park of Zeeland
The Deltapark Neeltje Jans is located at the foot of the largest storm surge barrier in the world. The Delta Works are well-known throughout the world with guests even coming from Russia, China and America. The Delta Works were built to protect the Netherlands from the water. More than half of the Netherlands is below sea level, so it is vital to protect our inhabitants from the water.
In 1953, there was a great flood that cost many lives. In the Netherlands, it was agreed that this should not happen again. The result is the Delta Works, which can close off all connections with the sea if necessary. The chance of part of the Netherlands being flooded is now less than once every 4,000 years.
In the Deltapark Neeltje Jans, there are exhibitions, guided tours and films that give a good impression of the unique Delta Works. The park is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. From November 1st to April 1st, it is only open at the weekends.
