If you are looking for a larger town to visit, don't miss out on Middelburg. Middelburg is the capital of the province of Zeeland and has a rich history. If you are interested in history, this monumental town with many historic buildings is worth a visit. The city has a spacious inner city and a beautiful abbey where the provincial government is based. 

Nowadays, Middelburg is a pleasant and lively town with a lot to do and see. Admire the beautiful canal houses, and the old town hall and walk through the winding alleys. Visit the 'Lange Jan' tower, a magnificent abbey tower that is unmissable in the centre of Middelburg. It is one of Middelburg's monuments and it is possible to climb the tower. It takes some effort, but it is certainly worthwhile. After climbing the 207 steps, you will have a wonderful view of the town and, on a very clear day, you can even see the surrounding islands of Zeeland. The tower is in the top ten of the highest towers in the Netherlands with a height of no less than 90.5 metres. 

Middelburg is also a good place for shopping, as the town is known for its wide range of shops. Be sure to visit a bakery and taste a bolus, a regional delicacy. For other Zeeland specialities, you can go to one of the restaurants; the menus often feature Zeeland specialities such as Zeeland mussels.
